반려견들의 눈은 언제나 우리에게 무엇인가를 표현하려고 합니다.
이러한 표현의 창구 역할을 하는 것 중에 하나가 눈입니다 이러한 눈이 아프면
보는 주인으로 하여금 반려견이 우울한 것처럼 보이기 때문에 안쓰러울 때가 많이 있습니다.
개의 눈의 구조는 사람과 다른 구조를 하고 있습니다.
사람의 눈 보다 더 편평하고 또한 약한 근거리시력을 갖고 있고 가까이는 잘 분별하지 못하지만
동공이 더 크고 바깥쪽에 위치하기 때문에 시야가 더 넓어서 주변을 더 많이 볼수 있습니다
우리주위에 보면 애견들 중 눈이 돌출 된 애견들이 많이 있습니다.
이는 우리들이 선택적으로 눈이 크고 돌출된 애견들을 선호하여 생긴 일인데
이로 인해 눈병의 위험률이 증가되고 특히 외상에 의한 위험률이 더 증가 하였습니다
애견들의 안과질환에 대해 알아 보겠습니다.
사람들이 가지는 안과질환을 반려견들도 똑같이 가지고 있습니다
대표적인 노인성 질환으로 백내장(Cataract)과 녹내장(glaucoma)이 있습니다.
백내장이란 수정체 또는 수정체낭의 혼탁된 상태를 말하는 것인데 원인은 수정체단백의 변성과 섬유의 팽창과,
파괴섬유 사이의 대사물질이나 병적물질의 축적이다. 애견의 평균수명은 12-3세인데 8세전 후에 많이 발생합니다.
녹내장이란 안내압의 상승과 이로 인한 일시적인 또는 영구적인 시신경 장애에 의한 시각기능 장애를
특징으로 하는 안질환이다 임상증상으로는 결막충혈, 각막부증, 산동,
수정체위치이상과 포도막염 등의 증상을 나타냅니다
가장 흔한 안구질환인 건성각결막염(Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca)은 흔하기도 한 질병 이지만
발생률도 높은 편이어서 원인도 증상도 다양한 편입니다.
눈물의 생산이 너무 적거나 유실되어 눈물의 정상적인 기능 결여로 각막이나 결막에
염증이나 변성이 생기는 것으로 안구의 충혈이 심하고 눈곱이 낍니다.
외과적인 수술을 요하는 질병들도 있습니다.
눈에 빨간 체리처럼 생긴 조직이 눈동자 하단에 올라오는 경우가 있습니다.
이것은 제3안검 돌출증인데 튀어나온 조직을 제거해주면 되는 간단한 수술중 하나입니다
애견들도 왜 쌍꺼풀 수술을 할까요?
사람처럼 매력적으로 보이기 위해 쌍꺼풀 수술을 애견들도 하는 것은 아닙니다.
안과질환중의 하나인 첩모중생(Dischiasis)이라는 속눈썹의 모양이 변형되어 각막을 찔러서
자꾸 눈물이 흘려서 눈 주위를 지저분하게 만듭니다. 사람들처럼 외과적인 시술을 하면 깨끗하게 해결 됩니다.
또한 안검 외반증(눈꺼풀 겉말림증)은 하운드나 스파니얼 계열과 늘어진 얼굴 피부를 가진 품종에서 발생 하는데
이 증상도 외과적인 방법으로 교정이 가능 합니다.
우리나라 사람들이 가장 좋아하는 품종이 하얀색의 말티즈인데 이는 성격도 온순하고 털의 빠짐도 적으며
반려견으로서 가장 선호하는 품종인데, 가끔씩 과다한 눈물로 앞면의 털을 적갈색으로 변하여 지저분하게 보여 집니다.
눈물의 과다유출로 원인을 찾기 위해 코 눈물관이 어떻게 막혔는지를 알아 보아야하고,
세균성 질환이면 항생제 처치를 받으면 되고 하루 두 번씩 생리식염수로
과다유출된 것을 닦아 주는 것이 좋은 예방법이 될 것입니다.
눈에 안충이 있는 질환이 있는데 일명 동양안충 (Thelazia callipaeda)이라 하고 중간숙주는
초파리인데 초파리이 소화관을 통해 숙주의 조직으로 침투 합니다.
눈곱과 소양감, 결막염, 각막염, 각막궤양 으로 진행 될 수 있습니다
일반적인 정기적 검사 중에 눈 검사는 필수이며 나이가 들어 갈수록 꼭 해야 합니다.
가정에서 할 수 있는 검사로는 보행이상, 얼굴표정의 이상, 안구의 비대칭, 눈곱의 유무, 안검경련, 통증의 유무
외상 유무를 확인하시고 더욱 정밀한 검사는 가까운 병원에 가셔서 시각검사, 배양검사, 대광반사시험,
눈물량검사 (STT), 안압측정, 각막염색등 여러 가지 검사를 받으시면 좋겠습니다.
가장먼저 사람과 반려견과의 소통이 눈과 피부의 접촉인데 항상 초롱초롱하고 맑은 눈을 서로 바라보면서
마음을 전 할 수 있도록 더욱더 철저한 정기검사가 필요하다고 봅니다.
