종종 입에서 악취가나는 애견들을 접하게 되는데 아무리 사랑하는 반려견이라도 얼굴을 쓰다듬다 보면
혀로 핥을 경우가 발생하고 병균이 입을 통해 감염되지나 않나 염려되는 경우가 있습니다.
건강한 치아관리를 위해 알아 두여야 할 기본 관리 방법 에 대해 알아 보겠습니다
사람들도 오복중의 하나가 치아 라고 말합니다. 왜 일까요
모든 음식물의 섭취가 입을 통해 들어가기 때문에 산해진미를 맛보기 위해서는
튼튼한 이빨을 가져야만 잘게 부수고 부드럽게 하여 구강을 통하여 맛을 의미하며 식도를 통과하기
때문이겠죠
애견들도 마찬가지입니다 사실상 그들의 입 그자체로 세상을 음미하는 기능으로 이용되어 집니다.
개들은 입술, 이빨과 혀를 통하여 주위 세상을 조사 합니다 특히 이빨은 많은 기능을 하기 때문에
나쁜 영향을 미치는 매우 다양한 임상질환을 유발 합니다 `
개의 이빨을 보면 전형적인 육식동물의 이빨이라 조금 무서움이 앞섭니다.
개의 이빨은 사람보다 훨씬 더 깊은 뿌리를 가지고 있습니다.
보통 개는 이빨이 없이 태어나서 약 3주 정도 전후에 잇몸에서 나오기 시작하고
모든 품종은 8주 정도가 되면 28개의 유치가 생기는데
13주쯤에서 앞니를 시작으로 유치가 빠지기 시작하여 6-8개월쯤에는 유치는 다 빠지고
영구치가 자리를 잡습니다. 성견은 위턱에20개 아래턱에 추가로 2개의 어금니를 가지게 되어
아래턱에 22개의 치아 이렇게 42개의 영구치를 가지게 됩니다.
이빨건강관리는 잇몸관리가 우선입니다 개는 뼈와 같은 단단한 물체를 씹을 때가 많기 때문에
잇몸이 상할 때가 많고 이빨골절도 종종 발생 합니다
양치질도 규칙적으로 해 주셔야 하고 입안도 정기적으로 점검해 주시는 것이 좋습니다.
변색이 있는지, 치석이 또는 골절이 있는지 치아의 바깥을 검사해 보셔야 합니다.
구강질환의 징후는 음식을 천천히 먹거나 골라서 먹는 경우나
머리를 기울이고 먹는다든지, 입을 열려고 하지 않고 침을 흘리거나 구역질 또는 악취가
나면 먼저 구강질병을 의심 해봐야 합니다.
치아질병은 치주염( periodontitis),치은염(Gingivitis), 치은비대증(gingival enlargement),
치첨농양(Periapical absesses), 하마종 ,유치잔류,
부정교합(Anomalies of dental arch relationship )등이 있는데
이러한 치아 질환 중에서 가장 흔한 원인이 플라크와 치석입니다
플라크와 치석 때문에 구강질환이 많이 발생하는 경우가 많습니다.
플라크는 끈적끈적하고 노란 색에서 황갈색의 물질입니다
타액, 세균, 백혈구, 탄수화물과 지방이 함유된 조직 파편으로 구성되어 1mg안에
수억개이 세균이 있어서 잇몸에 염증과 감염을 일으킬 수 있기 때문입니다
플라크는 오랫동안 축척이 되면 치석이라는 단단한 광물질로 변해서 잘 깨어지지도 않습니다.
치은비대증(gingival enlargement) 은 퇴행성 질환으로서 치아주위의
잇몸 조직이 과도하게 자라면 잇몸을 덮을 때 까지 성장을 계속 합니다
소작술로 치료 하거나 과도한 조직을 제거 해주는 수술로 치료됩니다.
안면부종이나 눈 밑 상처가 빨리 회복이 안될 때 치첨농양(Periapical absesses)을 의심해보아야 합니다.
치아의 뿌리에 염증이 심해져서 치조골을 녹이고 농양을 일으키는 질환으로
꼭 발치 하여 소독하고 처치를 해주셔야만 회복이 가능합니다.
스스로 치아를 관리하기 힘든 애견에게 주인이 조금만 주의를 기울인다면
치아의 통증으로 부터 해방되면 맛있는 음식을 아주 즐겁게 먹고 주인에게도 더욱 감사와
충성을 다 하겠죠 !
